Inspire your child to express their thoughts and feelings with confidence in this Schoolio Writing Skills unit focused on persuasive writing and poetry. In the first half of the unit, students learn how to form and support an opinion with compelling reasons—writing a short booklet titled The Best Pet Is…. Then they explore rhythm, rhyme, and meaning through the joyful world of acrostics and couplets.

This unit encourages both creative and structured thinking, helping young writers find their voice whether they’re making a strong case for their favorite pet or crafting a poem that captures an emotion or idea.

Students will:

• Learn to express opinions and persuade others using logical, age-appropriate arguments 
• Research and write a persuasive mini-booklet about the best kind of pet 
• Explore poetic styles including acrostic poems and couplets 
• Build an understanding of rhyme, rhythm, and descriptive language 
• Practice editing their work and presenting it proudly 

This unit includes brainstorming tools, sentence support, and optional scribing or tracing for emerging writers. It’s a gentle and joyful introduction to two powerful forms of self-expression.
