FAQs About 5th Grade with Schoolio

time spent learning

Your fifth grader will probably spend somewhere between 60-120 minutes on schoolwork per day. We recommend 4-6 subject blocks per day, lasting about 10-20 minutes each, including their video lesson and follow-up work.

Your fifth grader’s work will not be completely online with Schoolio. Schoolio lessons include printable PDFs for offline work anytime your fifth grader needs a break from screens. Some lessons require offline work, this is for your fifth grader to practice handwriting, create art, do science experiments, and more. Your fifth grader will also do writing lessons and we recommend they do their writing activities by hand or begin learning to type in a word processing software.

Most of the Schoolio online lessons have digital quizzes attached to them. When your fifth grader completes one of these quizzes, their grades will automatically be recorded in your child’s dashboard. Any work your fifth grader does offline will not be automatically recorded, but you can manually input a grade for these activities anytime you like so that your transcripts and dashboard continue recording.

Online learning can take time to adjust to, and Schoolio combines online convenience with offline projects and hands-on activities. If you want a more hands off approach to teaching, but your child isn’t responding well to the digital quizzes, you can use the videos to teach the lesson, but use the printable worksheets to take practice work fully offline. By using the online platform you can continue to schedule your days, record grades and keep transcripts. If you want to do a lot of offline work,  checkout the Schoolio bookstore for companion books to compliment your online lessons.

Your fifth grader will need basic school supplies such as pencils, markers, a ruler, and other art supplies. They may benefit from a protractor and a calculator. For Schoolio Literature, we recommend specific books to read and study. These books are commonly found at the library. You can view the booklists by grade level here.
