Writing Skills: Poetry & Book Reviews
This unit invites students to play with language through poetry and dive deeper into literature through book reviews. Learners will explore four unique types of poetry—acrostic, opposite, concrete, and couplets—before moving on to analyzing and reviewing a book they’ve read.
Students will:
- Create four original poems in different styles
- Develop confidence and creativity through poetic expression
- Learn how to summarize and critique a book effectively
- Share opinions with evidence and clear writing
Recommended for ages 8–10 | Approximately 3–4 weeks of instruction depending on your pacing
