Grade 7 Writing Skills: Letters and Speech Writing
In this two-part unit, Letters and Speech Writing teaches students how to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats. Through structured writing and presentation activities, learners explore the format and purpose of formal letters and speeches, gaining skills that are valuable for real-world expression.
Students will:
- Learn the formal structure of business and leadership letters
- Plan and write a formal letter to local government recommending a community improvement
- Practice brainstorming, organizing, drafting, editing, and finalizing a letter
- Study the structure of effective speeches including hook, purpose, body, and conclusion
- Research and write an original speech on a topic of personal interest
- Develop memorization techniques and delivery skills including eye contact, voice, and posture
- Present their final speech to an audience at home or via video
Each week follows a consistent writing and editing schedule, supported by planners, templates, and checklists.
