Grade 7 Writing Skills: Persuasive, Summarizing, and Paraphrasing
Master foundational academic writing forms with Persuasive, Summarizing, and Paraphrasing, a three-part Schoolio writing unit. Over four weeks, students will build critical writing and thinking skills by developing persuasive essays, crafting concise chapter summaries, and practicing ethical paraphrasing of texts.

Students will:
Research and write a persuasive essay that argues one side of a meaningful issue
Analyze both sides of a debate and support their position with facts, statistics, and quotes
Summarize a chapter from a favorite book by identifying key ideas, characters, and themes
Paraphrase short passages from published works using their own words and proper citation
Use writing organizers, checklists, and peer feedback to edit and finalize their work

Each week follows a consistent structure: topic introduction, guided planning, writing, editing, and optional presentation, with emphasis on clarity, structure, and purpose.

Recommended for ages 12–14 | Approximately 4 weeks of instruction depending on your chosen pacing
