Support your child’s developing voice with Writing Persuasive Texts & Poetry, a Schoolio Writing Skills unit that encourages both structured opinion writing and creative expression. With two distinct writing styles packed into one 4-week program, this unit helps learners build confidence in expressing ideas clearly and imaginatively.
In the first half, students craft a persuasive booklet called The Best Hobby/Sport Is…, learning how to form and support an opinion with compelling reasons. In the second half, they explore poetry by writing both concrete poems and rhyming couplets, learning to play with language, rhythm, and form.
Students will:
Understand what persuasive writing is and how to write with purpose
Brainstorm, organize, and write about a favorite hobby or sport using reasons to support their opinion
Explore poetry through shape-based concrete poems and rhyming couplets
Build descriptive and expressive language skills in a fun, low-pressure environment
Practice editing and presenting their final work with guidance and support
