Description
Writing Autobiographies & Informal Letters – A Schoolio Writing Skills Unit
Encourage personal expression and connection with Writing Autobiographies & Informal Letters, a Schoolio Writing Skills unit designed to help students reflect on who they are and share their stories with others. With a focus on both non-fiction and friendly letter writing, this unit gives learners the tools to write meaningfully about themselves while also practicing real-world communication.
In the first half of the unit, students create their own illustrated autobiography titled This Is Me! In the second half, they’ll explore the format and purpose of informal letter writing, drafting and editing letters to friends or family.
Students will:
- Learn what makes an autobiography and write their own personalized life story
- Use graphic organizers to brainstorm and organize ideas about themselves
- Practice editing and presenting their writing with support
- Explore informal letter structure: heading, greeting, body, and closing
- Write friendly letters with purpose, voice, and clarity—plus optional illustrations!
This unit offers flexible supports for early writers, including scribing or tracing options and plenty of encouragement to keep writing joyful.
Recommended for ages 6–8 | Approximately 4 weeks of instruction depending on your chosen pacing
