Explore personal expression and literary analysis with Poetry and Book Review, a two-part Schoolio writing unit. Over four weeks, students will write original poems using personification, alliteration, metaphors, similes, and couplets, then shift to crafting thoughtful book reports that summarize and critique a book of their choice.

Students will:

• Write four original poems using literary devices like figurative language and rhyme

• Learn about and apply personification, alliteration, similes, metaphors, and couplets

• Read and analyze sample poems to identify structure and meaning

• Plan, write, and edit a complete book report using a structured outline

• Summarize plot, setting, and character details while forming personal opinions

• Develop editing skills and create polished final versions of their work

Each week follows a structured writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, and presentation, with graphic organizers and examples to support learners.
