Description
Parts of a Story – A Schoolio Literature Study with Reading Comprehension
Help your young learner become a confident reader and storyteller with this Schoolio Literature Study focused on understanding the parts of a story. In this unit, students will explore setting, characters, plot, and problem/solution through a variety of read-alouds, discussions, and hands-on activities—including a puppet show finale!
Each day, parents will read a story aloud and guide their child through engaging comprehension exercises that teach the science of storytelling. As learners begin to recognize patterns in books, they’ll also begin to internalize story structure—boosting both their reading and future writing skills.
Students will:
- Practice daily reading strategies that support decoding and comprehension
- Learn to identify key story elements: characters, setting, beginning, middle, end, problem, and solution
- Build analytical skills through structured “Before and After Reading” questions
- Develop creativity with a puppet show storytelling activity
- Build fluency and understanding with level-appropriate reading comprehension passages and follow-up questions
