Schoolio’s Neurodivergent-Friendly Program Design

Every child is unique, and their education should be too.

Neurodivergency refers to neurodevelopmental differences like Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia, and others.

Neurodivergent children are the least likely to fit into the one-size-fits-all model of traditional school.

What Makes Our Programming Neurodivergent-Friendly?

All Schoolio programming has been thoughtfully designed to accommodate Neurodivergent learners’ needs. We provide programming purposely structured to help in 7 key ways :

  1. Bite-Sized Learning

Schoolio lessons are typically 2-7 minutes in length, with the longer lessons in the higher grades. This approach maximizes limited attention spans and increases retention of main concepts.

  2. Mix-and-Match Grade Levels

Our unique unitization method allows you to mix-and-match grade levels across not only subjects, but strands within subjects, to truly meet your learner where they are at and create a perfect-fit program just for them!

  3. Minimized Distractions

Schoolio lessons are designed to reduce distractions that cause learners to lose focus. Studies show that rapid motion, cut-scenes, and flashing lead to Cognitive Load, which increases fatigue and reduces retention. Neurodivergent-learners are especially prone to these distractions from learning.

  4. Reduced Redundancy

Neurodivergent kiddos have a strong sense of justice and what’s fair. That’s why needless redundancy can be hard for them to understand. To this end, we have a minimum of one digital and one offline practice activity per concept, but we leave the pacing and which activities you do, up to you as the teacher.

  5. Interest-Based Learning

We believe all children should be able to explore their passions and shouldn’t be limited to learning the “traditional” school topics based on grade level. We have a growing library of electives with subjects such as “All About Horses” in Science and “All About Video Games” in Social Studies. This allows you to create a personalized learning program your child will love!

  6. Hands-On Activities and Alternative Demonstration of Knowledge

Schoolio programming includes as much activity variation and hands-on, tactile learning as possible! This means your child won’t be on a screen all day- they will still do science experiments, art projects, get outside, and complete writing assignments. Neurodivergent students may struggle with a standardized test, so we give them lots of other ways to show you what they are learning!

  7. Emphasis on Social Skills & Emotional Intelligence Learning

The #1 indicator of adulthood success and satisfaction is Emotional Intelligence. Neurodivergent students tend to struggle more with social skills and emotional regulation, so we provide an extensive Social-Emotional Learning library that grows with learners.

I want to express my gratitude for reaching out to me regarding the digital program.

As a parent of a child with autism, it has been challenging for my son to attend school due to sensory overload issues. I really appreciate your call, and I would like the entire team to know that both my son and I absolutely love the program. It is truly amazing, and we are incredibly thankful to all of you for creating such a wonderful program. We have tried several programs in the past, but this one stands out as the best.

The bite-size videos, in particular, have been a favorite of ours. Thank you again for making a difference in our lives.

I just want to thank you for all you have done. You’ve made homeschooling so much easier and stress free than I could have imagined. I’m doing grade 2 with my daughter who is a bit behind developmentally and has CP and she’s finally understanding things with the one on one and your lessons. I couldn’t be happier. Know you are making a big difference and that we’re grateful.

Schoolio has been a life saver for me. I have Severe ADHD and OCD and still have to work full time and parent and homeschool. The structure of the materials is visually appealing to me and directions are perfectly explained. Where I would normally be overwhelmed to teach and prep, Schoolio has made it so easy and enjoyable!
