A Day in the Life of the Travelling Homeschooling Family
At dawn, the Worldschooler family, Sarah, Mark, Ethan (12), and Olivia (9), begin their day in their RV near the Grand Canyon. Over breakfast in their snug kitchen, they excitedly plan their day. Despite the small space, they cherish the simplicity and closeness of their traveling lifestyle.
Post-breakfast, Ethan and Olivia start their Schoolio lessons. Olivia uses the laptop at the dining table, while Ethan opts for his iPad and headphones on his bed. They both enjoy their math video lessons, providing Sarah some quiet time for cleanup and planning. Ethan completes his exercises digitally, and Olivia works on her Schoolio workbook with a pencil.
For their Social Studies unit on American Landmarks, Sarah reads aloud about the Grand Canyon outside at a picnic table, preparing them for their visit later. While Olivia relaxes in a hammock, Ethan sketches in the campfire ash, both immersed in the day’s lesson.
Exploring and Learning in the Afternoon:
Once the morning lessons are completed, the family sets out to explore the Grand Canyon. Equipped with the activity pages from their American Landmarks Schoolio book, Mark takes Ethan and Olivia on a hike and real-world scavenger hunt, identifying rock formations they learned about yesterday in their Rocks and Minerals science unit and spotting native plants and animals.
For lunch, they have a picnic overlooking the vast canyon, discussing the geological history they’ve just explored and imagining what the world was like when the canyon was formed. Sarah mentions that today’s adventure will be a great addition to their next Schoolio Creative Writing project, where the kids are documenting their experiences on their trip.
Back at the RV, the family excitedly discusses their day. Ethan and Olivia spend some time writing in their journals with sketches and notes from their adventure, and they take turns completing their grammar lessons and showering in the RVs small bathroom. Mark quizzes them on their spelling words while cooking burgers on the outdoor grill, and Sarah starts the evening campfire. The kids have been preparing a short play using the Schoolio Drama course, and present it to their parents after they eat.
The evening conversation revolves around planning their next destination and the Schoolio courses they’ll start that best align with their next adventure. The kids are excited for their upcoming studies and travel adventures!
