What do you do for homeschooling in the summer months? We asked Schoolio families, and the overwhelming answer was “light learning that’s fun.” This approach keeps kids engaged and helps neurodivergent kids stay regulated by maintaining a routine. Lightening up on academics while having summer fun is the best of both worlds! Since many homeschoolers love fun, summer-themed learning, we’ve got you covered! Welcome to the Schoolio Summer Camp Series! Each week, we introduce a new theme perfect for summer learning. We provide resources, and the best part? We have a full, day-by-day schedule for you. Every Friday, we post a plan for the following week, including lessons, activities, crafts, and more. This gives you the weekend to prepare. We bring you all the tools and planning you need for a complete summer program. Enjoy!

Join us for an immersive and educational summer camp experience. Explore the fascinating world of medicinal plants! Schoolio Summer Camp: Gardening and Plants is designed for curious minds and nature enthusiasts of all ages eager to learn about the healing powers of plants. This exciting week includes engaging Schoolio curriculum, hands-on activities, and outdoor adventures. The lessons for this week come from the Schoolio course Medicinal Plants, which is available in self-paced video format on the Schoolio Digital platform, or as an eBook in our bookstore. 

Day-by-Day Schedule

Monday 🌿

Morning Session

  • Lesson 1: Rethinking Weeds (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 2-5)
  • Activity: Amazing Weed Scavenger Hunt
  • Additional Activity: Create intricate nature mandalas using leaves, flowers, seeds, and other natural materials.

Afternoon Session

  • Lesson 2: Medicinal Herbs (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 6-8)
  • Activity: Learn about traditional healing practices using medicinal plants.

  • Daily Outing: Visit your local conservation area for a guided walk to learn about medicinal plants.

Tuesday 🌿

Morning Session

  • Lesson 3: Gathering and Preparing Medicinal Herbs (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 9-15)
  • Activity: Design and compile a field guide of medicinal plants or create plant journals with pressed leaves and sketches.

Afternoon Session

  • Lesson 4: Ways to Use Medicinal Herbs (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 16-21)
  • Activity: Match the name to the remedy and learn about modern applications of medicinal plants in medicine.

Wednesday 🌿

Morning Session

  • Lesson 5: Teas, Infusions, and Decoctions (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 22-25)
  • Activity: Making Tea
  • Additional Activities: Enjoy herbal tea time, meditation and journaling, or nature yoga.

Afternoon Session

  • Lesson 6: Herbal Syrups (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 26-28)
  • Activity: Make a syrup
  • Additional Activity: Use natural dyes from plants to color fabrics and create tie-dye shirts or bandanas.
  • Daily Outing: Visit your local Botanical Gardens or Historical Gardens.

Thursday 🌿

Morning Session

  • Lesson 7: Tinctures and Extracts (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 29-33)
  • Activity: Make your own tincture
  • Additional Activity: Sew and fill herbal sachets and pillows for sleep and relaxation.

Afternoon Session

  • Lesson 8: Herbal Infused Oils (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 34-37)
  • Activity: Making herbal infused oils
  • Additional Activity: Create healthy smoothies and juices using fresh herbs and plants.
  • Daily Outing: Visit your local Farm or Farmers Market.

Friday 🌿

Morning Session

  • Lesson 9: Making Your Own Skincare Products (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 38-39)
  • Activity: Making a salve
  • Additional Activity: Create natural, herbal soaps using essential oils and plant extracts.

Afternoon Session

  • Lesson 10: Plan a Medicinal Herb Garden (Schoolio Curriculum: Medicinal Plants pg. 40-45)
  • Activity: Designing a medicinal herb garden
  • Additional Activity: Plant a mini medicinal herb garden.
  • Daily Outing: Visit your local plant store to source seeds for your medicinal garden.

Contest Terms and Conditions
This contest is open only to those who are aged between 10 and 15 years as of the date of entry. The contest is only open to legal residents of the United States or Canada and is void where prohibited by law. The child must be signed up for the contest by their legal guardian. Employees of Schoolio, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and suppliers, (collectively the “Employees”), and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of Employees are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
Agreement to Rules:
By participating, the Contestant (“You”) and the Contestant’s legal guardian agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these Rules, and You represent and warrant that You meet the eligibility requirements. In addition, You agree to accept the decisions of Schoolio as final and binding as it relates to the content of this Contest.
Contest Period:
Entries will be accepted online starting on [start date] and ending [end date]. All online entries must be received by [end date at time].
How to Enter:
The Contest must be entered by the legal guardian of the participant using the online form provided at Entrepreneurship 2023 by 11:59pm EST on July 31, 2023 and final submissions must be sent via no later than 11:59pm EST on August 25, 2023. The entry must fulfil all Contest requirements, as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. Entries that are incomplete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of Schoolio.
The Winner(s) of the Contest (the “Winner”) will receive $1000, a one-year subscription to Schoolio Digital, and branded merchandise to be decided by Schoolio. The specifics of the prize shall be solely determined by Schoolio. No cash or other prize substitution shall be permitted except at Schoolio’s discretion. The prize is non transferable. The prize must be collected by the legal guardian of the Winner. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and/or local taxes, shall be the sole responsibility of the Winner’s legal guardian.
Winner Selection and Notification:
Winner will be selected under the supervision of Schoolio based on their sole judgement. The Winner’s legal guardian will be notified by email within fifteen (15) business days following selection of Winner. Schoolio shall have no liability for Winner’s failure to receive notices due to spam, junk e-mail or other security settings or for Winner’s provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information.
Rights Granted by You:
By entering this contest (e.g., photo, video, text, etc.), You understand and agree that Schoolio, anyone acting on behalf of Schoolio, and Schoolio licensees, successors, and assigns, shall have the right, where permitted by law, to print, publish, broadcast, distribute, and use in any media now known or hereafter developed, in perpetuity and throughout the World, without limitation, your entry, name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, image, statements about the Contest, and biographical information for news, publicity, information, trade, advertising, public relations, and promotional purposes, without any further compensation, notice, review, or consent.
Terms & Conditions:
Schoolio reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest should virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, fraud, or other cause beyond Schoolio’s control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, or proper conduct of the Contest.
